Iron County Activities This Week

OPEN MIC NIGHT:
The last Open Mic of 2014 is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Windsor Center here. The show starts at 7 p.m., and admission is $3.

The Friends of the Windsor Center would like to acknowledge the performers and the community for their support over the past five years.
The $3 admission includes a “sweet-treat” gathering in the Windsor Hall immediately following the show. Sponsors for the evening are Axle Auto Parts and Lindberg Logging.

CONCERT:  An Evening With 4 One Quartet
Grace Covenant Church will host “An Evening with 4 ONE Quartet” at the Windsor Center on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.
A freewill offering will be accepted. The concert is open to the public.
“4 ONE Quartet” is an all-male southern gospel group. The group’s name derives from four men who sing for ONE God. Their mission is to encourage, uplift and serve.
Rev. James Swanson of Grace Covenant Church said, “This concert is an extension of the Summer Concert Series now in its 16th season at Grace Covenant. Traditionally, these concerts have been held in our sanctuary, but the concerts have always been for the community, and with this wonderful facility available, we thought it time to bring the concert out into the community.
“It is our sincere hope that this concert be a blessing to many. We look forward to sharing an evening of fabulous quartet gospel music with everyone.”

DUCKS UNLIMITED BANQUET:
The Iron County Ducks Unlimited (DU) will host its 36th annual banquet at the George Young Recreational Complex, Saturday, Oct. 25.

There are many door prizes, including a grand door prize of a kayak package. The evening will have many activities; raffles, games, silent and live auction, lot of quality prizes including guns, limited artwork, unique DU products, DU Gun of the Year, and the popular commemorative shotgun given in memory of Jim Sapletal.
Ducks Unlimited got its start in 1937, a small group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became pledged to wetland habitat conservation.
Wetlands are nature’s most productive ecosystems, providing critical habitat more than 900 wildlife species and invaluable recreation opportunities for people to enjoy.
“Hunters do more to conserve habitat than any other group. Doing the right thing has its rewards: ducks flying and habitat for all. All of this is brought to you by outdoor enthusiasts like you and Ducks Unlimited. Please come and enjoy our banquet,” said Dan French, banquet chairperson.
Tickets must be purchased prior to the banquet and are available from committee members including: Miner’s Harvest Jewelers, Saigh Insurance and the Gun Barn.
The Iron County Ducks Unlimited Committee is looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting friends at the banquet on Oct. 25 at the George Young Recreational Complex.
If you have any questions, comments, or need tickets, please call Dan French, chairperson, at 265-5725.

RUN FOR COLOR RIDE A SUCCESS:
Close to 80 people took part in the first Veterans “Run for the Colors” ORV Ride. The ride went from the Wakefield American Legion and into the west end of the Ottawa National Forest. The ride was a cooperative effort between the Upper Peninsula ORV Trail Development Association, Western UP Trails Association, Veterans Outdoor World, Lake States Resource Alliance, and the Wakefield American Legion.
Forty-eight off-road-vehicles participated in the ride. Many had passengers sit inside what the ORV industry calls, “side-by-sides.” The ride was made possible through the help of the Michigan DNR, Michigan DOT, and the Ottawa National Forest. With warm temperatures, sunshine and the fall colors at peak, organizers of the event claim the ride was a huge success.
Participating in the ride was Michigan State Senator Tom Casperson, and Michigan State Representative Scott Dianda.
