Iron County Fair

The Iron County Fair is celebrating its 124th year this summer. Opening day is set for Wednesday, Aug. 27. The closing day is Sunday, Aug. 31. A few events have been scheduled on different days this year, including the 4-H market livestock auction, which now takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. The draft horse pull is now Thursday at 6 p.m. The arts and crafts sales are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Carnival specials will be offered Thursday through Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. The 2014 fair opens at noon on
Wednesday and stays open until 7 p.m. for entry day.

Thursday is themed “Senior Day,” with a host of activities for the elder set, including a free lunch beginning at noon. Also on Thursday, the antique farm equipment display opens and will last the entire four days. Live music begins at noon with Jim Clements. The Miss Iron County con-test starts at 4:30 p.m. with the winner announced at 7 p.m. after the $75 kids’ coin scramble. The horse arena hosts the horse speed and fun events at 4 p.m. Later in the grandstand, the draft horse pull gets under-way at 6 p.m. The Lovin’ Country music set goes from 6 to 9 p.m. The Friends of the Fair Award will be presented at 7 p.m.

Friday is livestock judging day, with judging beginning at 9 a.m. The 4-H market livestock judging is set for a 1 p.m. start. Music with Old Friends goes from 2 to 5 p.m. in the bandstand before Marilyn Monsivias takes over from 6 to 9 p.m

In the grandstand beginning at 7 p.m., music will be provided by local area bands organized by Interpose Pro-ductions.

On Saturday, the 4-H horse show kicks things off at 9 a.m. Ventriloquist act Skip & Dave starts at 10 a.m. in the rotunda. A “Down on the Farm” presentation takes over in the rotunda at 11. The Open Class horse show gets the afternoon started. The ever-popular 4-H market livestock auction will take place at 2 p.m. Dan Germic provides mu-sic from 2 to 5 p.m. before the demolition derby revs up at 6 p.m. Bill Haasey offers music from 6 to 9 p.m. in the band-stand.
Sunday, the final day of the fair, begins with the loggers/farmers breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by rabbit showmanship at 9 a.m. and the presentation of horse awards at 10:30 a.m. Starting at 11 a.m., the tractor pulls are followed by the truck pulls in the arena. The chicken-and-corn feed will be served starting at 1 p.m. The annual fair raffle drawing will be at 3 p.m. in the grandstand. Richie Yurkovich provides the music from 2 to 5 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m. all livestock and exhibits will be released, signaling the end of the 124th Iron County Fair. The tractor and truck pulls have free admission. The demolition derby cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children. Parking is $5 for a season pass. Walk-ins are $1 per day
