Blessing of Animals
The congregation at St. Mark’s Episcopal church, 809 Crystal Ave., is pleased to invite pets and their people to a liturgy of the Blessing of Animals. The event will take place outside the church on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m., with the Revs. Peg Padilla and Carolyn Orchard officiating.
“In the past this has included all animals such as pets, farm animals and the like,” Padilla said.
“It is a time to be thankful for all creation, but especially for those animals who bless our lives as our pets.
“In addition to blessing the animals, the service will include a special section to remember those pets who have died in the past year. St. Mark’s holds the liturgy as a way of not only honoring our animals, but also to raise public awareness of the many homeless animals in need of homes.”
Anyone attending the animal blessing is therefore asked to bring something that can be used by the local Northwoods Animal Shelter.
Monetary donations are greatly appreciated, Padilla said. Some items of need are cat and dog food and treats, paper towel, hand sanitizer, liquid hand soap.
