Iron County Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing

Trudging through the snow can be quite difficult in the Upper Peninsula, that is if you’re only on foot and not taking advantage of some other ways to travel in the the winter time. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing can be a helpful and entertaining way to stay on top of the snow.  Often seen as a sport or form of exercise, snowshoes and skis were once a form of winter transportation before the luxury of snowmobiles and four wheel drive cars & trucks.

Today, there are many options to get out and enjoy these seasonal sports while there is the snow on the ground in Iron County.  At Ski Brule specifically, there will soon be 33 kilometers of tracked and groomed trails along the Brule River and all around the mountain.  Rental equipment is available and trail passes cost $10 for cross country & $5 for snowshoeing. Also located in Iron County is George Young Golf Course which provides 6 km of groomed trails.  Rental equipment is also available and trails travel all of the scenic grounds of the course.  More information on these trails can be found on Young’s Golf • Recreation • Dining website.
