Michigan Hunting & Michigan Fishing doesn’t get any better!
Duck hunting, grouse hunting, deer hunting, whitefish spearing and lake trout fishing do it all in the same weekend in Iron County Michigan! Yes you can!
We headed to Perch Lake Saturday morning for Michigan duck hunting and the birds were plentiful. Best part was that we were the only hunters on the lake. Peaceful sunrise, warm coffee and good friends. Did I mention a ton of birds too? We all got our limit.
After a midday nap and lunch we began our walk through the beautiful rolling and wooded Brule River Valley. Our four legged friends flushed several birds and the dinner menu was planned for that night.
A clear, moonlit night, without wind was exactly what we hoped for on Chicaugon Lake. If you haven’t gone whitefish spearing, I highly recommend it. The bottom views of Chicaugon Lake are amazing!! Saw a glimpse of a musky that had to be at least 4.5 feet long! And walleye galore! Oh wait, we were whitefish fishing right? Yes, we were and three of them found their way into our boat.
Saturday morning was a canoe paddle on Chicaugon Lake. Lake Trout were in the shallows and there were at least 40 in our view … but the Lake Trout were hard to catch! We kept at it for awhile and considered it success when we caught our second Lake Trout.
As if that wasn’t enough Michigan Bird Hunting & Fishing, 2:00 p.m. and we headed for the archery deer stand. A huge 8 point buck wandered in but was too far. He and I will meet again.
