Veterans Day

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and it is important to pay tribute to those who had and are continuing to serve our country. To provide a brief history about this holiday, on May 13, 1938, an Act was approved that made November 11th of each year a legal holiday. This day, known as “Armistice Day,” was meant to honor the veterans of World War I. However, due to World War II, Congress amended the Act of 1938 in 1954 and insisted the word “Armistice” be replaced with “Veterans.” With the approval of legislation, November 11th became the day to honor all American Veterans.

Someone willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for their country is something that we all can respect and honor. So to Veterans everywhere across this great country of ours, thank you for your service.

If you would like to celebrate the holiday in Iron River, you can go to the Charles Greenlund Gymnasium at West Iron County High School. The West Iron County Student Council will be serving breakfast for all Veterans in the area beginning at 9am.  The rest of the festivities will begin at 10am. If you plan on attending, enter through the main doors of the high school. Hope to see you there, and once again, thank you to all of our Veterans
