November 15th is a few days away and with that comes regular firearm deer hunting. I don’t even have to explain how big of a deal this is, because you already know. What I can talk about, are the positives that come from this time of the year. One of the best parts about this season, is simply being in the outdoors. There is a certain level of calmness and tranquility that comes from being in the great outdoors. John Muir once said, “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” On top of that, it is a great way to spend time with friends and family. This is a bonding experience unlike any other. For some people this year, it’s going to be their first time hunting, and with that, they will understand what all the hype is about first hand.
When it comes to deer, there are many interesting facts that some people have never heard of. One in-particular is about the size of the antlers. A few people that I have spoken to think that the older a buck is, the larger its antlers will be. Even though older bucks generally do have larger antlers, the size and number of points is primarily dependent on the deer’s diet. So the size depends of the amount of nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are in the deer’s diet. Another intriguing fact, is that cows and deer actually have some similarities. One those is the number of stomachs they have… four! That is one complex digestion cycle. For more interesting facts, click here.
Anyway, before rambling on too much about deer facts, I just want to say be safe, have fun, and good luck this year! You never know how the season is going to end up for you, but you always know that it is going to be a great time regardless.
