Hello Visitors,
The continued winter weather has been a blessing for some area businesses in Iron County! With ski resorts firing on all cylinders, cross-country and snowshoe trails groomed to perfection and snowmobile trails in great shape for this time of the year! Winter activities are a big draw to for the area and allow visitors to Iron County to enjoy the great outdoors like you and I do each day!
This week is the World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River, Wisconsin; just a hope skip and a jump from Iron County. Eagle River is know as the “Snowmobile Capital of the World” The first event there was held in 1964, it was founded by Al Alward. The original race ran as a cross county race around Dollar Lake. Many of the snowmobiles during the race were unable to climb a small hill located on the course, with just 9 horsepower, they didn’t really compare to the modern snowmobiles that we are all used to today.
With the derby continuing throughout the weekend, its just a short drive to eagle river and the perfect weekend to enjoy the outdoors and some good racing!
