Blues Fest

As summer winds down, the music heats up in Alpha for the End-of-Summer Blues Fest set for Aug. 29. The music of motorcycles will be heard before the blues music starts with the annual Vets Freedom Ride.
The day begins with the Blessing of the Bikes & Bikers at 11 a.m. followed by the Veterans Freedom Ride and Memorial Poker Run. Motorcycles and cars travel from Alpha, through Iron County and return back to Alpha with stops at area memorials.­­­ Riders can sign up to win a prize.
The Blues Fest gets under way at 12:30 p.m. at the pavilion in Alpha. Starting this year’s lineup is the Flat Broke Blues Band. At 2 p.m., Blind James and Sugar White take the stage followed by the Fireside Band at 2:30 p.m. Wili Tatu will perform at 4:30 p.m. with Blind James and Sugar White returning for a second show at 6 p.m.
Sons of Legend round out the day with music at 7 p.m.
A favorite event is the Blues Berry Pie Eating Contest at 4 p.m. The bibs will come out for those hungry for a face full of blue.
Food and merchandise vendors will be at the site. There are no carry-ins allowed. Refreshments will be provided by the American Legion Riders Post 21.
Tickets are in advance or $15 at the gate. Children under 12 are free, with adult. Gates open at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at Crystal Lumber Company, Alpha General Store and First National Bank and Trust in Iron River.
