Golf scramble set for Forest Park weight room
CRYSTAL FALLS—A charity golf scramble is being planned by the Friends of Forest Park to help the school district update its weight room and training facilities for student athletes. The scramble will be held Saturday, June 14, at the Crystal View Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9. The entry fee is $160 per team, and those teams that register and pay before June 1 will receive a free T-shirt for each member. Teams can be all-male, all-female or any combination. The tournament is limited to 36 teams. The scramble offers prizes for men and women, and there will be events at each hole, including a long drive contest at the conclusion. Entries and payment should be sent to Friends of Forest Park, c/o Kurt Anderson, 801 Forest Parkway, Crystal Falls, MI 49920. Checks should be payable to “Friends of Forest Park.”
To reduce the cost of running the event, organizers are looking for corporate or individual sponsors. The fee to sponsor a hole is $100, and signs at each tee box will show each sponsor’s name and logo. Organizers are also in need of door prizes, which be drawn at the end of the scramble. Those wishing to sponsor a hole should make checks payable to “Friends of Forest Park” and send them to the address above. Friends of Forest Park is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. Any donations to the group are welcome. Everyone who contributes will receive a receipt verifying the contribution for tax purposes. “Much of our current equipment is wearing down or simply outdated,” said a spokesman. “We would also like to increase the variety of equipment in hopes of drawing more interest from students who are not comfortable with the current equipment. “Our goal is to provide a facility with safe, quality equipment for students and athletes of all sports. In addition, the new equipment will provide an opportunity for all at Forest Park to lead a healthy lifestyle.” The organizers noted that the athletic tradition at Forest Park has been second to none. “Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the equipment available
