Yoopers are kind of an odd mixture of people, and watching them in an objective sort of way (and let’s not forget, I’m one of them), they remind me of what you would get if you put “The Red Green Show,” “Northern Exposure,” and a strange and bewildering twist of world cultures in a blender and hit “Puree,” but they are some of the nicest people you’d ever like to meet, and they are unlike any other people anywhere else

The continued winter weather has been a blessing for some area businesses in Iron County! With ski resorts firing on all cylinders, cross-country and snowshoe trails groomed to perfection and snowmobile trails in great shape for this time of the year! Baumgartner boosts his Olympic SBX bid
IRON RIVER—Iron River’s Nick Baumgartner is making a strong case for his second selection to the U.S. Winter Olympics snowboardcross team. After a pair of World Cup races held over the weekend in Andorra, his bid is looking pretty good.
Baumgartner is now ranked seventh overall in World Cup SBX standings and second among Americans after competing in two World Cup races in Vallnord-Arcalis, Andorra, on Jan. 10 and 11.

There’s nothing like living in the U.P. Doesn’t matter if it’s 30 below outside, Yoopers just add another layer and go out to play. There’s always something to do. Ice fish, snowmobile, ice skate, snowshoe, ski, snowboard, tubing or snuggle in a sunbeam with a good book.

This winter sure has been an interesting one so far! The grip that ole’ man winter has on Iron County sure seems like a strong one. The recent cold snap as sent temps plunging to the single digits for high is in most of the area. But the cold isn’t stopping visitors from coming to Iron County and enjoy all the great winter fun activities Iron County has to offer.

Winter wonderland in the U.P. of Michigan is like none other. Michigan snowmobile trails are OPEN for the 2013/14 snowmobile season. Iron County boasts more than 260 miles of extensively groomed and well-marked snowmobile trails, drawing riders from throughout the region and beyond to enjoy scenic journeys that are a trademark of trails here. The wide open trails traverse abandoned railroad beds, weave through varied wooded terrain and cross lakes for excellent sledding. Snowfall totals are between 90 and 120 inches each season.
